Modern Curriculum

The academic curriculum at Alvaston Juniors School - Derby and London have been tailored with the best practices in education in mind. We make sure to take the individual characteristics of our pupils in mind when preparing the school plans and programs.

We do our best to nurture the children’s talents and stimulate them to develop in ways considered according to their natural inclinations. At the same time, we at Alvaston Juniors School - Derby and London strongly believe in the good old maxim that the best skill one can have is the ability to learn. We teach our pupils to learn and hone their skills. By stimulating their intellectual curiosity, we give them a head start in life and set them up for future success.

Curriculum refresh notes

On 11 March 2026 we rolled a shared reading spine so Derby classrooms and London outreach days use the same core texts for term talk. In September 2024 science topic crates were inventoried so microscopes and models travel safely between sites when workshops rotate. Through 2023 maths fluency clubs kept a portable kit list for families who change address mid-year and need homework materials the first Monday after a move.
